BANANA PINGER Fishtek Marine
A low cost and practical acoustic deterrent designed around the needs of fishermen to reduce cetacean bycatch.
Fishtek Marine Banana Pingers are:
- 185mm x 52mm x 42mm
- 229 grams
- 37 grams in water
- Highly effective
- Transmitting outside the audible range of seals (Frequenzy above 50 kHz)
- Depth rated +1000m
- Easy to use
- Easy to assemble
- Easy to move between net chains
- Compliant with European legislation: EC 812/2004
- Advanced, automatic capacitive switch
- Sound level 145dB +/- 3dB @ 1m
- LED battery display - quick and easy to check, also in direct sunlight
- Randomised pings with harmonics, prohibits habituation
- Battery life: 12 months with average use (50% immersion time)
- Tough inner housing, injection moulded polycarbonate
- Expected lifespan of >5 years
The Banana Pinger acoustic output meets both EU and US regulations so pingers can be spaced at 200m. The ping production has been optimised to prolong battery life. Each ping reaches a source level of 145dB with a randomised structure, including harmonics. During recent sea trials the detection rate of porpoises around nets with Banana Pingers attached was reduced by 82-100%. These long-term studies showed no evidence of habitutation as well as being highly effective at keeping dolphins away.
The Banana Pinger is the only pinger with a super-durable rubber carrier. The pinger unit has a depth rating of 1000m and has been tested to below 1400m. Toughness means longer life, greater reliability and reduced costs.
